Some studies have reported turmeric leaf extract demonstrate its functional effects such as whitening, cosmeceutical, skin immunity, anti-inflammation, and antioxidant activities. These effects mainly come from curcumin, total phenolic compounds, and the flavonoids in turmeric leaves.

The leaves can help boost digestion and reduce problems of gas and bloating. Curcumin is said to trigger bile production, which is one of the main components of digestion. Increased secretion of bile juice aids smoother digestion.

In the Philippines, the leaves have been traditionally used in herbal tea for reducing malaria fever. It is served in drinks; in Malaysia, it is used as an antiseptic; in Pakistan, it is used as an anti-inflammatory agent. In the coastal regions of India, turmeric leaves are propagated and used to make herbal concoctions to ward off cold, fever and other respiratory allergies.
