Licorice tea for bronchitis

Licorice, the dry root of Glycyrrhiza glabra, has been used for medicinal purposes for millennia; stores of licorice were found in the tombs of Egyptian pharaohs, including that of King Tut.

People believe licorice can helps clear respiratory infections such as bronchitis. It also appears to have both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

What is bronchitis? Bronchitis is swelling of the lining of the large airways called bronchi in the lungs. The swelling causes more mucus than normal to be made. That’s what makes the patient cough.

What are the causes of bronchitis?
• Bacterial or viral infections
• Smoking
• Air pollution
• Allergy to something in the air such as pollen
• Lung disease such as asthma or emphysema

By consuming licorice tea it can soothes a sore throat, loosens bronchial congestion and reduces inflammation.
