Fennel tea

Foeniculum vulgare commonly known as fennel is a traditional medicinal plant of Apiaceae family. For centuries, F. vulgare fruits have been used as traditional herbal medicine in Europe and China. Fennel is similar to dill and anise in appearance, taste and therapeutic action.

The fennel seeds, leaves, and roots can be used, but the seeds are most active medicinally and are commonly used. Fennel contains vitamin C for immune support and potassium and folate to ease cardiovascular and colonic conditions.

Fennel extracts proved to have anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, carminative, diuretic, expectorant, laxative, analgesic, and stimulant of gastrointestinal mobility and are used in treatment for nervous disturbances.

Fennel is used as a treatment for upper respiratory disorders, as an aid in breast milk flow and as a diuretic.

It can also used as a fever and pain reliever as well as an eye wash and appetite suppressant. Fennel acts as an excellent digestive aid to relieve abdominal cramps, gas and bloating.

Fennel can also be helpful in relieving colic. The nursing mother can drink 1 cup of fennel tea, three times a day. Or dilute of fennel tea in 2 cups of water, and give it to babe 1 teaspoon of the diluted tea, four times a day.

Fennel tea is helpful to older children with abdominal pain and flatulence. Fennel tea can be made with milk instead of water or use the tea to thin whole milk or pureed foods.
