Saw palmetto is in the a family of Arecaceae. Latin name for saw palmetto is Serenoa serrulata.

Saw palmetto berry drink was used by Native Americans to treat genitourinary problems, and physicians actually prescribed an extract of the berries to treat prostate problems until nearly 1950.
