Passionflower tea

Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) is a perennial vine that can grow twenty-five to thirty feet in length. The plant is really invasive, sending up roo0ts as much as 6 feet away from the main stem.

Passionflower contains several tranquilizing chemicals so it is often used for its sedative properties to relives nervousness and insomnia. Its sedative effect is without impairing alertness; it also has a relaxing effect on the body; inducing sleep.

The herb has been approved by Commission E as a treatment for mild insomnia and anxiety, based on a fair amount of animal and human research.

To make tea, pour one cup of boiling water over one or two teaspoon of dried passionflower: steep for fifteen to twenty minutes and strain. Take up to two cups a day.
